Scene One
1.This is Lady Macbeth's sleepwalking scene. Read the scene carefully.
- List her actions.-She tries to wipe imaginary blood off her hands and she relives killing Duncan and Banqou.
-In what ways is this scene linked to her unsex me speech in Act One, scene five?-She isnt thinking straight and shes overcome with evil in both scenes.
2. Look carefully at the images that come out of her subconscious mind. What do they suggest about her state of mind?-The images suggests that she is delirious.
3. To what extent has the audience been prepared earlier in the play for her inability to cope with her guilt?-The audience has been very prepared because she showed little remorse killing people.
Scene Three
4.Read Macbeth's speech which begins with : I am sick at heart...
- Why is he disillusioned?-The prophecy is coming true.
5. In the scene as a whole, in what ways is he still placing his faith in the witches?-Hes hoping they will reappear or that the prophecy is false.
Scene Five
6. Read Macbeth's speech in response to Lady Macbeth's death. - What is he saying about life?-His images of life as a story and life as light refer to a biblical passage.
7. What does his final speech in this scene suggest about his state of mind and his belief in the witches?-Hes has a disappointed remorseful state of life and he no longer believes the witches.
Scene Eight
8. Macbeth , finally denying his belief in the witches, fights and dies with valiant fury. To what extent do you see his death as being heroic?-No because he gave in to evil because he was greedy and wanted to do anything to become king.
